From $5 lattes and Rich Dad Poor Dad to MLM "financial freedom," hosts Dria Benjamin and Kristin Geosits are asking a simple question: Does any of this actually make you rich?
ALLENTOWN, PA, October 06, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Stop buying coffee. Buy assets. Use good debt. Start a business. Build passive income. Join the opportunity. Retire your spouse.
Personal finance has no shortage of people telling you how to get rich.
Have You Tried Being Rich? would like to see the math.
The new no-BS money podcast hosted by financial experts Dria Benjamin and Kristin Geosits launched September 1 with a simple premise: take the financial advice everyone has heard, strip away the soundbites and success stories, and figure out what actually survives contact with real life.
Because a money tip can sound smart, responsible and incredibly convincing without actually being the thing that makes someone wealthy.
"Financial advice gets repeated like it applies equally to everyone, and it just doesn't," said Kristin Geosits. "Income matters. Debt matters. Housing costs matter. Your obligations, opportunities and stage of life matter. We want to talk about all of that, not pretend there is one trick everyone has somehow been too irresponsible to follow."
"If skipping coffee were the secret, every office break room would be full of millionaires," said Dria Benjamin. "We're not here to yell at people about lattes. We want to know why some of this advice sounds so good, who it actually works for and what gets left out of the pitch."
That means the show is not interested in replacing one set of rigid money rules with another.
Instead, Geosits and Benjamin start with the strongest version of the advice. They look at why people believe it, where it can be useful, what the numbers say and where the argument starts to fall apart.
Sometimes the advice survives.
Sometimes it needs a very large asterisk.
And sometimes it is just financial bullshit with better branding.
THREE EPISODES. THREE VERY DIFFERENT WAYS TO "GET RICH."
The first three episodes of Have You Tried Being Rich? take on three ideas that have become deeply embedded in American money culture: spend less, think like the rich and become your own boss.
EPISODE 1: "STOP BLAMING THE LATTE: THE $5 LIE KEEPING YOU BROKE"
Apparently, the thing standing between you and generational wealth was a medium iced coffee.
The premiere takes on the "Latte Factor," the long-running idea that cutting small everyday purchases and investing the difference can dramatically change your financial future.
Geosits and Benjamin dig into where the advice came from, why the math can look so convincing and the difference between encouraging better spending habits and blaming a $5 purchase for much larger financial problems.
Small savings matter. Spending intentionally matters. But so do income, housing, debt, saving and investing.
The coffee was never that powerful.
EPISODE 2: "RICH DAD, POOR ADVICE"
Buy assets. Use good debt. Build passive income. Escape the rat race.
Sounds easy enough.
Episode 2 takes on Robert Kiyosaki's Rich Dad Poor Dad and nearly three decades of "think like the rich" financial advice that followed it.
The hosts look at what the book gets right about cash flow, ownership and financial education before getting into the much messier reality of leverage, rental properties, entrepreneurship, college, business ownership and so-called passive income.
Because telling someone to "buy assets" is one thing.
Having the money, risk tolerance, time and margin for error to actually do it is another.
And buying yourself a stressed-out job with an LLC is not exactly financial freedom.
EPISODE 3: "THE PYRAMID YOU CAN'T CLIMB: MLMS WON'T MAKE YOU RICH"
Hey girl!!! Been SO long!!! Random question: have you ever thought about being your own boss???
Episode 3 goes straight at one of the most persistent promises in the financial freedom playbook: multi-level marketing.
Sell products you already love. Work from your phone. Build a team. Create residual income. Maybe even retire your spouse.
There is just one tiny problem.
The math.
Geosits and Benjamin break down why the MLM pitch can be so convincing, how recruiting spreads through friendships, families and social media, and what participant income disclosures look like once you get past the luxury cars, incentive trips and carefully curated success stories.
They also tackle the more uncomfortable question underneath it all: something does not have to be an illegal pyramid scheme to be a pretty terrible way to try to get rich.
LESS GURU WORSHIP. MORE PRESSURE TESTING.
Personal finance content has become an industry of its own.
There are books to sell, courses to launch, algorithms to feed, audiences to grow and, occasionally, a Lamborghini that needs to be parked somewhere in the thumbnail.
That environment rewards certainty.
Have You Tried Being Rich? is more interested in the asterisk.
The show examines the financial advice industry itself and the incentives that turn complicated financial decisions into simple rules people can repeat in a TikTok, put on a book cover or sell from a stage.
The goal is not to prove that every popular piece of money advice is wrong.
It is to separate advice that actually changes financial outcomes from advice that mostly sounds like it should.
"Simple advice gives people something concrete to do, and sometimes that can be helpful," said Geosits. "The problem is when a useful habit gets presented as the solution to a much bigger financial problem."
"A money tip can be good advice without being the reason somebody gets rich," said Benjamin. "That's where things get weird. We take one decent habit, give it a cape, and suddenly it is supposed to solve capitalism."
At the end of every episode, the featured advice faces the show's BS Meter, with three possible verdicts:
THIS GETS YOU RICH.
THIS WON'T HURT.
YOU'LL DIE TRYING.
No gurus. No shame. No pretending everyone would be wealthy if they just wanted it badly enough.
Just the question that probably should have been asked in the first place:
Have you tried being rich?
